This used New England style club butt fowler is a dog-lock flintlock with an overall length of about 59.75 inches. Its 43.75-inch barrel is octagon to round and a 71 caliber smoothbore, with a fair bore and moderate roughness. The barrel carries a small brass blade front sight, a sighting groove on the tang and an impressed proof mark. Four brass ramrod thimbles, the trigger guard and the butt plate show an even age patina, and the ramrod is present. The supplier calls fowlers of this type rare.
The supplier notes that the thimble spacing suggests the barrel was shortened by about 6 inches in use. The stock has missing wood along the barrel, an old repaired crack at the front of the lock and moderate use wear, and the butt plate heel has been repaired. The dog-lock action works, though it is a little touchy. For a Missouri buyer, muzzleloaders are legal during the November firearms portion, which runs Nov. 14-24 for the 2026-27 season under MDC rules.
